Goa Gala-Gala
Goa Gala-Gala is a unique underground cave built by a Balinese hermit named Mangku Byasa in the 1960s. Inspired by the Mahabharata, this cave was created as a meditation retreat and a peaceful dwelling. The cave features an intricate tunnel system with several rooms, including a living area, bedroom, kitchen, and air shafts for ventilation. Entirely hand-dug, Goa Gala-Gala stands as one of Nusa Lembongan’s most fascinating cultural sites.
Visitors can explore the cave’s depths and experience a different kind of tranquility from the island’s beachside atmosphere. Since the rooms are quite narrow and dark, it’s recommended to bring a flashlight or hire a local guide for exploration. Goa Gala-Gala not only offers a unique historical experience but also provides insight into the simple life of a hermit in the past.
